I'm not the kind of person who will blindly agree with all things that my family does, but I will certainly be on my uncle's side this time. He was cheated by one company and it was a shame because he would always pay everything off quickly, not missing a single due date. In this case, you can imagine his frustration when one bad debt collection company started to target him. Try as he might, all of the reasoning on his half went unnoticed by this company.
In all honesty, it's not fair to call every company in this industry a bad debt collection company. When you really take a moment to examine everything, the good ones thrown into the mix such as the Bohemia-based R-R-S, owned and operated by some of the smartest minds in the industry, are desirable and can help people gain the money that they are owed. I can only imagine that my uncle wanted to work with them as opposed to the dishonest companies. For those of you who are curious as to what my uncle owed, it had to do with a supposed video due date from over ten years ago.
My uncle swore up and down that he had returned that very video and even a thorough investigation of his house resulted in no such video being found. He wouldn't forget about something like, he would constantly tell us. While this might have been true, constant notifications should have been given through mail about my uncle's due date, so why would it have come to him ten years after the fact? That was perhaps the most suspicious aspect of this entire story.
The stream of harassment on the part of the debt collector never seemed to cease and things became more unlawful as time went on. When my uncle was simply trying to sleep, his phone would sound at twelve o'clock in the morning and on the other line was the collector. It is technically against the law to contact a debtor outside of 8 AM to 9 PM, as it is to drop threats of arrest on said debtor, which they also did to my uncle. The abuse continued until my uncle started to fire back at them.
While I don't know the specifics of the story, eventually the debt collector stopped and the problem was only a thing of the past. While this is fortunate, I'm sure that my uncle wished that it never happened at all. The stress that built up because of that collector was insane and the fact that uncle didn't receive much in the way of compensation only adds a bittersweet flavor to a successful result. I can only hope that this doesn't happen to me, so it'd be best for me to simply buy videos and forget entirely about rentals.
